Additional Experiences

A r t C l u b

One of the most beneficial opportunities that came a long at South Piedmont was my role as Art Club President. I was founding member and Art Club President for the two years I attended South Piedmont. My role as President presented itself with several other great opportunities that were beneficial to my academic progress. During my time as Art Club President I arranged several events, fundraisers and trips.

Holiday BazArt- This was a Holiday Art Sale consisting of student and faculty works. The profits earned were put towards funding a field trip to Washington, DC for the Art Club! This was a great opportunity for students to sell their personal works and get their foot into the world of Art Sales! I was responsible for majority of the advertising and organizing of the event and this really benefitted my leadership skills.

Washington, DC- Art Club was presented with the opportunity to travel to Washington, DC and visit the National Gallery of Art! We visited several other museums including the Natural History Museum and the Hirshhorn! We visited all of the monuments and even got to explore Chinatown!

Art Club had the opportunity to hold several workshops within meetings! Including a oil pastel workshop, clay/pottery workshops, and water color workshops!

Club Fairs- Promoting Art Club was a big deal to get the club started! I participated in almost every club fair opportunity available including the ones on other campuses.

Monroe Art Walk- I participated through the Monroe Art Walk several times through Art Club and assisted in arranging the shows. It was an awesome opportunity for students to display their works publicly and meet other artists!

Art Club also went on several field trips over the years. We visited the Mint Museum, toured UNC Charlotte's Art Department, and even visited a local artist's studio!

VOLUNTEER WORK

While at South Piedmont outside of Art Club I was also presented with several other opportunities.

Volunteering for the Multicultural Festival- As an art student I was able to volunteer for the multicultural festival and assist with art activities. I assisted with helping children paint masks, paint eggs, and color!

Volunteered for Day of the Dead Celebration- Art Club assisted with face painting for the Day of the Dead Celebration!

Volunteered with Early College Art Club- Early College has their very own Art Club and I assisted with multiple meetings. Helping gather materials, teach them art techniques and helping clean up after!

Painted a Mural as a Volunteer- I assisted in painting the mural in Monroe Crossing! The artist, Greg Lindquist, opened it up to the community to assist in painting the mural and I am proud to say I was a main contributor.

Assisted in Art Exhibitions- I assisted in hanging and taking down several shows. South Piedmont had several student shows, faculty shows and even shows from artists in the community! I assisted artists like Joseph Vodlan in arranging and hanging their exhibitions. I collected student work, organized the works, and assisted in taking them down when the time came. I also participated in these shows and displayed my own works.

Advocate for AFA Program- I have also spoke to students in search of a program study at two College 101 Seminars. I spoke to students about the Fine Arts Program and it's many benefits. I also displayed my eportfolio as an example of what the students have to look forward to!

EXTRAS

Work Study- While at South Piedmont I was also offered a Work Study position. I was a Studio Assistant for the Art Studio on campus. I assisted teachers with classes, organizing and cleaning the studio, and supervising the building.

Excellence in Engagement Award- I have been nominated and received the Excellence in Engagement Award twice while at South Piedmont. I was nominated by the Director of the Fine Arts program and Art Club Advisor for my involvement in school activities.

Studying Abroad- Perhaps the most exciting of all I was presented with the opportunity to travel to France and Spain! This was a truly life-changing experience and we were very lucky to be able to have the chance to travel to another country!
